Man detained in Carnaxide for repeated domestic violence against ex-partner
A 29-year-old individual was arrested in Carnaxide, in the municipality of Oeiras, on the basis of a warrant for detention outside of flagrante delicto. The man is strongly implicated in the continuous practice of domestic violence against his former partner, with the most serious coercive measure having been imposed.
The detention occurred on Wednesday, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Command of Lisbon of the PSP, which was initiated after the victim filed new complaints at the Oeiras police station.
During the investigation, officers established that the suspect, with a history of drug and anabolic steroid dependency, had been persistently exercising both physical and psychological violence against his ex-wife over recent years.
In one of the reported incidents, the aggressor took the couple's minor daughter from her mother's arms and disappeared with the child without indicating where he was going. The girl was only returned after the man was confronted with the possibility of being arrested.
The detainee had already been convicted in 2023 for the same type of crime. At that time, he was given a suspended prison sentence, conditioned on a prohibition from contacting the victim, an obligation which he repeatedly breached.
The PSP also reported that the same individual is the subject of other investigations for the presumed commission of similar acts, involving at least three other women.
Following the first judicial hearing, the court decided to keep the suspect in preventive custody.
