The Judicial Police arrested, on Thursday morning, a 26-year-old man in the Lisbon area under an international arrest warrant. According to Correio da Manhã, the suspect is wanted for the crime of attempted murder with a firearm, committed in Brazil in August 2021.
The arrest was carried out by the Criminal Information Unit of the Judicial Police. The crime occurred in a city in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo, where the defendant fired several shots at the victim. The victim survived the gunshots.
The motive underlying the attack is linked to drug trafficking, according to information gathered by the authorities. The suspect allegedly fled Brazil following the crime and settled in Portugal, where he remained until his arrest this week.
The man will now be brought before the Lisbon Court of Appeal for the application of measures of coercion deemed appropriate.
