A 38-year-old suspect followed a woman after she left a bus and attempted to force her to engage in sexual acts. The victim managed to escape and sought help via the emergency number 112.

The PSP arrested a 38-year-old individual in the Marvila area of Lisbon on suspicion of attempted rape. The man is also in the country illegally.

According to the PSP statement, the incident occurred when a woman exited a bus and was heading home. The suspect began to follow her, approaching her progressively whilst asking her for food. At one point, the attacker attempted to force the victim to engage in significant sexual acts, resorting to physical force.

The woman managed to free herself from the attacker, took refuge inside her residence and sought help via the emergency line 112.

The suspect was taken to police facilities. During the identification process, the authorities verified that the individual was in Portugal illegally.

The man was brought before a judge for questioning, being subject to the enforcement measure of fortnightly check-ins.
