An individual was captured in Loulé, in the Algarve, after locking himself in a residence with his former partner and their daughter, only six months old, threatening the woman with a pistol. The operation, carried out on Saturday, involved the intervention of the GNR and the Judicial Police, according to Correio da Manhã.

According to what was established, the victim had previously filed a complaint for domestic violence and alleged sexual assault. There was even an outstanding arrest warrant against the suspect for the crime of rape.

During Saturday afternoon, the man threatened his ex-wife with a firearm and abducted her, also taking the baby. An alert was issued through the emergency number 112, mobilising a police operation to the location.

Late in the afternoon, the individual attempted to flee through a window of the residence, sustaining minor injuries to one of his hands. To prevent this, GNR personnel fired a warning shot into the air.

Moments later, the suspect was arrested without offering resistance and the gun he was carrying was seized. The Judicial Police took over the investigation, collecting solid evidence of the crimes of aggravated kidnapping and possession of a prohibited weapon, in addition to rape.

The detainee was brought before a court so that the criminal instruction judge could determine the measure of restraint to be applied until trial.
