Man stabs cousin to death in Ansião after inciting guard dog
A 31-year-old man killed his cousin with three knife strikes in Avelar, Ansião, and was remanded in custody at Leiria prison.
Homicide in Avelar: suspect incited dog before inflicting fatal stab wounds
A 31-year-old man fatally stabbed his cousin on Sunday night in Avelar, in the municipality of Ansião, first inciting the guard dog that was inside the dwelling before attacking him with a knife. According to Correio da Manhã, the victim sustained three extensive and deep wounds in a vital area, which proved fatal.
After the attack, the assailant left the scene, leaving the victim bleeding out while the dog barked. He returned shortly afterwards and remained at the scene during rescue operations, and was detained in flagrante delicto by the GNR.
Teams from INEM and the Ansião Volunteer Fire Brigade found the victim in cardiopulmonary arrest. Death was confirmed at the scene.
The victim was identified as António Pedro Rodrigues, known as 'Pedro Espanhol', aged 52. A lorry driver by profession, he presided over the Grupo Motard Roda Lenta motorcycle group and was a well-known figure in the region.
According to what has been established so far, António Rodrigues went to his cousin's house to ask him to cease the constant arguments and assaults with other family members who also lived in Avelar. A new episode of violence occurred on that very Sunday, shortly before the homicide. The specific motives for the crime are still being investigated.
The suspect, who was detained for the following two nights, appeared in Leiria Court this Tuesday for his initial judicial hearing. He left the court remanded in custody, being held at Leiria prison.
The investigation is being handled by the Criminal Police of Coimbra, with the GNR presenting the detainee to the court.
