A 47-year-old man was caught in flagrante by the GNR in Lousada on Monday. He is accused of starting a fire that spread across a scrubland area.
The flames began after a controlled burn that got out of hand, destroying approximately one hectare of vegetation. The fire endangered people, houses and other wooded areas.
The authorities were called to the scene after a road was closed to traffic for safety reasons. When they arrived, they found the suspect at the fire site and detained him.
The individual was constituted as a defendant and the case was referred to court.
Firefighters from Lousada and Freamunde fought the flames and prevented the fire from spreading further. There were no injuries.
