A 55-year-old man has been formally charged by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Évora with committing a series of thefts and possession of illegal firearms in the Alentejo city. The facts date back to the period between May 2025 and February of the current year.
According to a statement from the Regional General Prosecutor's Office, cited by the newspaper Correio da Manhã, the suspect is alleged to have stolen goods from vehicles, homes and local businesses. The charge encompasses ten theft offences—nine of them aggravated—criminal damage to property, trespass and possession of prohibited weapons.
The individual was apprehended in February and has remained in preventive custody since then. The Public Prosecutor's Office described how the accused adopted these behaviours as a means of survival, given that he had no employment or lawful income.
During the police operation, officers from the PSP recovered various objects allegedly stolen: cash, alcoholic beverages, a safe and three watches. Additionally, two carbines, a pistol, ammunition, blades and small quantities of drugs were found.
A second person, a 27-year-old woman, has also been charged with attempted theft in collaboration with the main accused. This co-accused is currently subject to identification obligations and confinement to her residence.
The judicial authorities have further requested the seizure of illicit proceeds estimated at over five thousand euros.
