A 50-year-old man has been detained by the Polícia Judiciária on suspicion of attempting to kill his neighbour with an axe in Cête, Paredes. The victim, aged 65, was hospitalised but is no longer in danger of life.

Authorities have detained a man in his fifties accused of attempted qualified homicide against his neighbour. The incident occurred in the parish of Cête, municipality of Paredes, in the early evening of 20 June.
According to the investigation by the Polícia Judiciária, the alleged attacker and the victim, a 65-year-old man, maintained a neighbourly relationship that culminated in an argument. The situation escalated when the suspect wielded an axe and struck the other man with two blows to the head.
After committing the assault, the man left the scene and fled. The victim was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he received necessary care. The injuries, although serious, do not currently place the victim's life at risk.
The Polícia Judiciária managed to locate and detain the alleged perpetrator of the crime. During the first-instance court questioning, the judge decided to apply the most severe precautionary measure, ordering that the defendant remain in pre-trial custody until trial.
