The Judicial Police (PJ) announced on Monday the arrest of an 18-year-old adolescent in the capital area, accused of sexual offences against two children. The incidents are said to have occurred within the school premises attended by both the suspect and the victims, according to Correio da Manhã.

The investigation began during the current year, after the parents of the minors — who are currently 11 and 12 years old — filed a complaint with the authorities. Based on evidence gathered, PJ investigators concluded that there was sufficient evidence to charge the defendant with four separate instances of child sexual abuse, as well as one incident involving child sexual abuse material.

The arrest took place last Friday. Subsequently, the young man was brought before a court for his first interrogation. The criminal investigation judge decided to impose the most severe custody measure, ordering that he remain in pre-trial detention.
