The Public Security Police (PSP) recently dismantled an organisation dedicated to trafficking in illicit substances, dubbed by the media as the "Uber of Drugs". Among the names that emerged in telephone recordings are judoka Jorge Fonseca, as well as artists José Carlos Pereira and Marta Gil.
Following the disclosure of the news, the athlete used digital platforms to issue a statement. In it, he made clear that he was never the subject of any formal accusation nor appeared as a suspect in this inquiry. According to his words, the only connection to the case was based on information already in the public domain. He also assured that he always collaborated with the authorities to clarify the facts, without ever having participated in the sale or consumption of narcotics.
The sportsman stressed that, as a high-level competitor, he has been subject for years to periodic anti-doping tests, conducted by both national and international bodies. These tests cover preparation periods, official competitions and rest periods.
Fonseca expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to his family, the sporting institution he represents and to followers of his career.
It is worth recalling that, in 2021, the judoka saw his ambition to join the PSP's ranks frustrated.
