The Public Prosecutor's Office at Setúbal court requested, on Friday, lengthy sentences for four foreign nationals who are being tried there for allegedly being part of an international drug trafficking network.
The accused face charges of criminal association and aggravated drug trafficking. According to the prosecution, the organisation used pineapples as a means of concealing and transporting cocaine.
The case stems from an investigation aimed at dismantling a structure dedicated to the illicit trade in psychotropic substances, with operations that extended beyond national borders.
The Public Prosecutor's Office's closing arguments point to the need for exemplary convictions, taking into account the transnational nature of the criminal scheme and the quantity of drugs seized.
The court's decision is expected to be announced in the coming sessions of the trial.
