Passenger assaults police officer and employee at Lisbon airport
A 26-year-old foreign national was detained on Monday afternoon at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon after attacking a police officer and a MENZIS employee.
The incident occurred in the baggage collection area. The passenger resisted the orders of the authorities and subsequently physically assaulted the PSP officer, who was taken to a hospital unit with injuries considered serious.
Before his detention, the same individual also assaulted a MENZIS worker on the fifth floor of the airport.
The detainee was held at PSP Lisbon's temporary detention facilities, awaiting presentation to a judge.
Luís Neves, Minister of Internal Administration, responded to the assault in a social media post, expressing solidarity with the officers involved and describing assaults against security forces as "absolutely unacceptable".
