A 26-year-old individual, a foreign citizen, was placed under detention on Monday afternoon at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon. The man resisted and attacked a PSP officer, who was subsequently taken to hospital with injuries considered serious. Source: Correio da Manhã
According to information gathered by CM, the detention occurred in the airport's baggage reclaim area. The passenger, before assaulting the police officer, also assaulted a Menzies company employee on the fifth floor of the terminal.
The detainee will remain in the PSP's temporary detention facility in Lisbon, and will subsequently be taken to court for the application of coercive measures.
The Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, has already commented on the case, condemning the assaults through a social media post. The official stated that he is monitoring the development of the injured officer's health condition, wishing him a speedy recovery, and expressed total solidarity with the police officers involved.
"Assaults against members of the security forces, who daily guarantee the protection of all, are absolutely unacceptable and merit the firm disapproval of the State," Luís Neves stressed.
