Five cases opened against Minister Luís Neves, two treated with urgency

The Public Prosecutor's Office (PGR) confirmed on Thursday the existence of five cases involving Luís Neves, Minister for Internal Administration and former director of the Judicial Police. According to CNN Portugal, the information was provided by the Attorney General, Amadeu Guerra, at the margins of the ceremony marking the inauguration of the president of the Évora Court of Appeal.

Amadeu Guerra specified that two of the five cases "are important and considered of an urgent nature" and that "they were processed and handled during judicial recess, they were not halted".

The five cases are distributed across various judicial and administrative bodies. One is before the Court of Accounts, relating to a breach of regulations arising from a 2023 report. Another is being pursued at the Administrative and Tax Court of Beja and concerns "strictly administrative matters" linked to construction aspects. At the Lisbon District Public Prosecutor's Office there is an inquiry related to a trailer and the circumstances surrounding it, as well as a separate case concerning the car of the drug trafficker known as Xuxas. Finally, the Regional Public Prosecutor's Office in Évora is conducting an investigation into constructions carried out — a case associated with the house in Odemira.

The Attorney General emphasised the principle of equal treatment of cases: "We investigate all people regardless of their situation and positions, but it is obvious that there are cases that require more thorough investigation." Guerra also guaranteed that "there will be no differentiation" between these or any other cases.

"This is what I have to say," Guerra stated, adding that the PGR's request was for "expeditious" handling of the cases.

The statement was made in the Alentejo city of Évora, at the end of the ceremony marking the inauguration of Isabel Imaginário as president of the Évora Court of Appeal and the judges of that court.
