24-hour trafficking network dismantled in Odivelas by the Judicial Police

The Judicial Police dismantled, over the last weekend, a criminal network dedicated to drug trafficking that was operating in the Greater Lisbon area, according to policiajudiciaria.pt. The operation was conducted by the National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking and resulted in the arrest of two men.

During the operation, significant quantities of drugs were seized: 25,661.67 grammes of cannabis resin, 4,890 grammes of cannabis leaf and 13.62 grammes of cocaine.

The residential and non-residential searches also enabled the recovery of two firearms — one of them military calibre — ammunition, 65,215 euros in cash, a luxury vehicle, a motorcycle and various weighing instruments and other items with evidential value, used in the packaging and distribution of narcotics.

The investigation concluded that the two arrested individuals were part of an organised criminal structure, responsible for the importation, storage and sale of drugs. The profits generated by the activity were frequently invested in luxury goods and an ostentatious lifestyle, factors which made the group resilient and reinforced the continuation of the illicit activity.

The defendants will be brought before the competent judicial authority for the application of appropriate coercive measures. The inquiry is being conducted by the DIAP of the Comarca de Lisboa Norte, in Loures.
