The Central Directorate of the Judicial Police detained, on Saturday, a 35-year-old individual at the Grândola service area in the district of Setúbal. The man was travelling from Spain to Coimbra with approximately 100 kilogrammes of hashish concealed in his vehicle.

The police operation, named "El Camino", took place following extensive investigative efforts. PJ inspectors had evidence that the driver would be carrying drugs in the vehicle, which was confirmed upon interception. Two hidden compartments containing the narcotic substance were discovered in the car.

In addition to the drugs, officers seized a precision scale, 1,300 euros in cash, two vehicles and various computer and telecommunications equipment. A search was also carried out at a garage in Figueira da Foz.

The detainee is accused of drug trafficking. He has not yet been heard at his first judicial interrogation for a decision on measures of restraint.
