Agents from the Judicial Police intercepted a 35-year-old man at the Grândola service area on the A2 motorway last Saturday. The man was transporting a load of 100 kilograms of hashish that came from Spanish territory with its final destination the city of Coimbra. The operation was carried out by the Central Regional Division of the Judicial Police.
The arrest resulted from prolonged investigative efforts and data gathering. The inspectors gathered sufficient evidence to believe that the driver was concealing narcotic substances in the vehicle. Procedures carried out early on Saturday morning confirmed this suspicion.
When approached at the roadside stopping point, the suspect was subjected to a thorough search of the vehicle. The agents discovered that the car had two concealed spaces, created deliberately to conceal drug trafficking. It was inside these compartments that the illicit substance was found.
