Police seize more than 2.6 tonnes of cocaine off Portuguese coast
Portuguese and Italian police have seized more than 2.6 tonnes of cocaine in the Atlantic off the Portuguese coast, according to Yle. The estimated value of the drug on the black market amounts to approximately 500 million euros.
The cocaine was found in a boat which, according to police, smugglers use to collect large shipments dropped by cargo ships from South America. Four people who were on the vessel were arrested.
The operation was carried out in cooperation with Spanish and Portuguese authorities.
