A 69-year-old man was identified by the PSP in Carnide, Lisbon, after a large number of weapons and ammunition were discovered in his residence during an eviction operation.

An eviction operation carried out by the Lisbon Municipal Police in Carnide revealed an impressive collection of weapons in a private residence. The case dates from when municipal officers went to the location to carry out an eviction procedure.
During the operation, the Municipal Police officers came across a genuine weapons depot and decided to request the support of the PSP. The police force, upon arrival at the scene, proceeded to seize all the material found.
In total, eleven air-rifle guns, a revolver, and two firearms whose exact nature will still be determined through expert examination were removed from the residence. The seizure also included 96 cartridges of 9-millimetre calibre and more than a hundred projectiles of other calibres.
The occupant of the house, a septuagenarian aged 69, justified possession of the weapons by claiming to be a hunting practitioner. However, the quantity and diversity of the material raises questions about the legality of his possession and about any associated authorisations.
The PSP is now analysing the situation to determine whether the arsenal was properly licenced and whether the owner possessed the necessary documents for possession of the seized weapons. The case could result in criminal proceedings if breaches of weapons and ammunition laws are found to have occurred.
