House arrest for man accused of raping daughters in Vinhais

Authorities placed a resident of the municipality of Vinhais, in Bragança district, under house arrest. The measure was ordered by the court following the first judicial interrogation held on Thursday afternoon, according to information provided by the Judicial Police to Lusa.

The defendant faces serious suspicion of having committed sexual crimes against his two daughters. The elder, aged forty, has proven cognitive disability. The younger is now twenty-one years old.

Investigators from the Judicial Police gathered evidence supporting the theory that the father exploited the vulnerability of his elder daughter to impose sexual contact on her. Additional evidence suggests that the younger daughter was also a victim of abuse between the ages of ten and thirteen.

The victim with cognitive impairment was placed in the care of an aunt. Her sister continues to live in the family home.

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Bragança is conducting the investigation.
