Barreiro PSP dismantles gang manufacturing synthetic drugs in laboratory
The Barreiro Public Security Police dismantled a criminal network comprising nine individuals dedicated to the laboratory production of heavy narcotics for subsequent sale. The operation culminated in the detention of all members of the group, with seven of them held in preventive custody.
The police operation took place on 8 July and involved the execution of 12 search warrants, issued in the context of an investigation into drug trafficking, possession of prohibited weapons and other offences linked to violent crime. Six suspects were detained during the execution of the warrants, whilst three were apprehended in flagrante delicto for possession of drugs and illegal weapons.
During the searches, authorities seized an electric cooker and ammonia, materials that the group used to synthesise drugs. Also seized were 3,100 doses of crack and hashish, precision scales, 10 nitrous oxide canisters — known as "laughing gas" — and five weapons, three of which were air guns.
The confiscated material also included 80 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, two thousand euros in cash, five televisions and six electric scooters. Additionally, officers found hammers, containers with alcohol and a roll of barbed wire, items that the PSP suspects were intended for violent crimes.
