Hotel receptionist suspected of raping intern during night shift

The Judicial Police arrested a 28-year-old receptionist in Lisbon on suspicion of aggravated rape and harassment of a 19-year-old intern, both employees of the same hotel unit, reports CNN Portugal, which had access to the PJ statement.

The incidents are alleged to have occurred on 1 and 2 July, during the young man's work placement period at the hotel. According to the investigation, the abuse took place during a night shift inspection of the facilities, when the intern was under the supervision of the suspect.

The receptionist allegedly led the victim to an area without video surveillance coverage, where he allegedly committed the rape using physical violence. In the following shift, the suspect attacked the young man again, despite the resistance shown.

Fearing further incidents, the intern sought help from someone he trusted. The hotel subsequently transferred him to another hotel unit, but the suspect continued to look for him at that new workplace and contacted him persistently by phone, behaviour that is alleged to have caused fear and distress to the victim.

After investigative steps considered urgent — including the collection of evidence at the scene of the alleged crimes — the PJ proceeded with the arrest outside of flagrante delicto, citing the risk of obstruction of the investigation and continuation of criminal activity.

The detainee, of foreign nationality, will be presented for initial judicial interrogation for the application of coercive measures.
