Receptionist suspected of aggravated rape and harassment of hotel trainee in Lisbon
The Polícia Judiciária has arrested a 28-year-old man in Lisbon suspected of aggravated rape and harassment of a 19-year-old colleague, according to information released by the PJ and reported by Google News PT — Crime (pt). The incidents occurred on 1 and 2 July 2026 inside a hotel unit where both were employed.
The victim was carrying out a work-placement internship at the hotel, where the suspect was employed as a receptionist. During a night round, under the supervision of the accused, the latter led the trainee to an area not covered by the video surveillance system and carried out the rape using physical violence.
In the following shift, the suspect repeated the crime, despite the victim's resistance. Fearing that the assaults would continue, the young man asked for help from a person he trusted.
The hotel transferred the trainee to another unit, but the suspect persisted in attempting to locate him at that new location and maintained insistent contact by mobile phone, causing fear and distress to the victim.
Following urgent investigative steps, including a visit to the crime scene, and considering the risks of hampering the investigation and continuation of criminal activity, the PJ proceeded with the arrest outside of flagrante delicto.
The accused, a foreign national, will be presented to the judicial authority for initial interrogation and application of appropriate coercive measures. The investigation is being led by the Lisbon DIAP (Departamento de Investigação e Ação Penal).
