The GNR dismantled a criminal organisation in the Algarve dedicated to robbing and assaulting elderly people. For months, the Criminal Investigation Unit in Faro kept the group under surveillance before advancing to two detention operations in Olhão and Faro.

The criminals employed extreme violence to subdue their victims, using instruments such as hammers and wooden clubs. The aim was to appropriate gold jewellery and cash. The toll of the assaults includes at least ten elderly people who had to receive medical care in hospital units.

In total, six members of the network were arrested. The ages of those detained range between 19 and 46 years old.
