The Judicial Police arrested a 70-year-old resident accused of starting a fire in the locality of S. Martinho de Mouros, municipality of Resende, district of Viseu. The incident occurred on Tuesday.
Investigators from the Northern Directorate were responsible for the operation that led to the suspect's capture. She had previous criminal records for identical acts.
The flames put a large expanse of wooded land and some houses in the region at risk. The swift intervention of firefighters prevented the fire from spreading beyond the initial perimeter.
After being heard in court, the defendant was ordered to the most severe measure of restraint: she was remanded in pre-trial detention.
