The Porto court has convicted three officers of the Public Security Police (PSP) for crimes related to the falsification of occurrence reports and the diversion of drugs seized during police operations.
The three police officers, who worked in the city of Porto, were charged with falsifying official documents to conceal the diversion of controlled substances that had been confiscated as part of arrests and inspections.
According to the judicial order, the officers altered the records of drug seizures to hide the fact that part of the substances were removed before official registration. The diverted material was subsequently placed into illegal circulation.
The case was investigated by the Judicial Police and brought to trial, with the court imposing sentences of imprisonment, both custodial and suspended, on the three defendants, as well as measures prohibiting them from exercising public office.
The conviction of these PSP officers represents a rare case of conviction for active corruption within Portuguese security forces, highlighting the internal control mechanisms that led to the discovery of the scheme.
