A 61-year-old resident on the first floor of a house in Miranda do Corvo was found to be dangerous and unfit to plead by Coimbra Court, which imposed a measure of internment upon him. The man threw a heavy construction block at the neighbour on the floor below, causing serious injuries that necessitated urgent transport to a hospital unit.
The attack occurred in August of the previous year. The defendant waited on the raised landing of his residence, where he lived with his mother and a brother, until the 55-year-old neighbour left on a bicycle trip. At that moment, he dropped the cement block, weighing approximately 20 kilogrammes, from a vertical distance of four metres, striking the victim in the head, who fell unconscious to the ground.
The injured man's wife raised the alarm when she returned home. The court classified the events as being of extreme gravity, stating that a fatal outcome was avoided only by fortuitous circumstances.
The disagreements between the two parties date back about half a dozen years, when the couple moved into the ground floor of the property located in the centre of the locality. The history of confrontations includes a previous incident, around the time of the victim's wedding, in which the aggressor had already thrown the same block from the landing, although without hitting anyone. Later, at the start of 2025, the defendant allegedly went to the neighbours' house and damaged blinds with a tool, with the neighbour responding the same day by damaging two window frames of the first-floor residence with stones taken from the pavement.
The security measure of internment set a minimum period of three years and a maximum limit of ten years and eight months.
