Attempted abduction in Caracal: van with three men allegedly pursued 11-year-old child
Police in Caracal are investigating an incident in which three men in a van allegedly approached an 11-year-old minor on Craiova Street. A criminal file has been opened for attempted unlawful deprivation of liberty.

Cotidianul.ro reports that police in Caracal are investigating an attempted abduction that took place on the street where former criminal Gheorghe Dincă lived. On 1 November 2026, around 14:20, a 112 emergency call reported that an 11-year-old minor had been approached on Craiova Street by persons in a vehicle, who allegedly offered to transport him to the municipality of Craiova.
The Olt County Police Inspectorate confirmed that officers identified both the vehicle and the three persons inside it, following checks carried out immediately after the report. Video footage received by investigators allegedly shows the van pursuing the boy.
Based on evidence gathered, a criminal file was opened for attempted unlawful deprivation of liberty. The investigation is being conducted under the coordination of the competent prosecutor's office, which will establish all the circumstances of the incident and take appropriate legal measures.
IPJ Olt emphasised that "police officers treat any report concerning the safety of minors with maximum seriousness, and checks are carried out in compliance with all legal provisions".
Caracal Town Hall reacted quickly after the information appeared in the public domain. Acting Mayor Laurențiu Pătran immediately contacted the boy's family to ensure that the minor was in no danger.
"Three days ago, in our municipality, an incident occurred in which the safety of a child appears to have been put at risk. We learned about this situation from the online environment and immediately contacted the child's family to learn more details and to ensure that he is in no danger," Pătran stated.
