A new man has been arrested in the case concerning the sword attack at the gymnasium Brinellskolan in the Swedish city of Fagersta, which took place on Friday last week. This has been reported by the Swedish prosecution authority to SVT according to Politiken.
The newly arrested man is suspected of complicity in murder and complicity in attempted murder. His age has not been disclosed, and it has not been confirmed whether he is affiliated with the gymnasium.
An 18-year-old man is already held in custody charged with murder and attempted murder. On Saturday, it was confirmed by Fagersta Municipality's education director to SVT that the 18-year-old is himself a pupil at the school where the attack took place.
Police had previously stated that they did not expect any further perpetrators in the case.
During the attack, a 17-year-old girl was killed, and three other pupils were injured. Police received a report at 14:06 of ongoing deadly violence at the school, which has approximately 450 pupils.
The 18-year-old was, according to the information, wearing a helmet and a black elephant hat when he attacked with a sword. During the arrest, shots were fired. On Saturday, police spokesman Stefan Larsson rejected the notion that the suspected perpetrator had been hit.
"I have no information that the suspected perpetrator should have been hit by gunfire," Larsson told the Swedish media.
It has not been disclosed whether warning shots were fired. Police have not yet commented on a motive in the case.
