Large-scale tax fraud uncovered: ÚBOK and European Prosecutors bring charges
Google News SK — Crime (sk) reports on a major operation against organised financial crime, in which the Office for the Fight against Organised Crime (ÚBOK) in cooperation with the European Prosecutor's Office has dismantled a sophisticated money-laundering scheme with international scope.
Investigators have charged nine individuals and one company that were engaged in long-term and systematic involvement in the legalisation of illegal proceeds. The group operated branching networks of bank accounts and corporate entities through which it continuously transferred financial resources with the aim of concealing their origin.
Capital obtained in this manner was invested by the group in securities, real estate and other valuable assets. The result of the ongoing investigation is the seizure of assets — including investments and real estate — with a value exceeding €16 million.
The money-laundering case represents only one part of a substantially larger investigation. Tax-related criminal activity linked to this group caused damages estimated by authorities at more than €26 million. The value of laundered funds documented to date reaches at least €2.9 million.
The entire case has been supervised from the outset by European delegated prosecutors, who have ordered direct procedural steps against the assets of the suspects. Investigative measures continue, and law enforcement authorities have announced further details as soon as the state of evidence allows.
