Extensive international tax fraud uncovered, seized assets worth more than €16 million
The European Public Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with the Office for the Combat of Organised Crime (ÚBOK), has dismantled an extensive network suspected of tax fraud and money laundering, according to Google News SK — Crime (sk). The total damage caused by the tax criminal activity is estimated at more than €26 million.
Investigators have brought charges against nine individuals and one company that are suspected of having been systematically engaged in laundering illegal proceeds over an extended period. The documented value of laundered funds reaches a minimum of €2.9 million.
According to findings by law enforcement bodies, the group exploited a sophisticated system of repeated money transfers through a sprawling network of bank accounts and corporate entities. The capital concealed in this manner was subsequently invested in securities, real estate and other valuable assets.
On the orders of European delegated prosecutors, who have been monitoring the case since its inception, authorities took direct action against the suspected individuals' assets. The result has been the seizure of investments and real estate with a combined value exceeding €16 million.
According to investigators, the money laundering case represents only part of a substantially larger matter with an international dimension. Investigative actions continue and the authorities will provide further details once the evidential position and procedural situation allow.
