A man who in 2024 in the village of Tomášov collided with two cars whilst attempting to flee from police, injuring several people, appeared before Bratislava City Court I again today. The proceedings had to restart due to an objection to the presiding judge.

Bratislava City Court I continued proceedings today against a man who caused a major traffic collision in the village of Tomášov during a chase with police. The defendant René is being prosecuted for endangering the public, possession of narcotic substances and failure to obey an order by an official. The incident occurred in Senec district. A police patrol attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle, but the driver accelerated and began to flee. This was confirmed by police officers who testified today. According to their account, the vehicle passed through a railway crossing despite a red signal. Shortly afterwards, it collided with two other cars.
Emergency personnel and a helicopter attended the scene. Several participants in the accident sustained injuries. The defendant lost consciousness and firefighters had to pull him from the wreckage. Law enforcement officers denied that they had attacked the unconscious man after the collision. René presented this version at the first hearing, where he claimed he remembered nothing and that someone had hit him.
The proceedings stalled when the defendant objected to the composition of the panel. As a result, all evidence presented so far was forfeited and the court must hear the witnesses again. Among them are passengers from the cars that were struck. One of them told reporters that he and his wife continue to suffer health consequences and have undergone several operations. He added that the driver has not yet compensated them for any damages.
The next hearing is scheduled for the end of June. A psychology expert, Dušan Kešický, is due to testify then.
