Guyanese man remanded for smuggling 53 bottles of cough syrup into Suriname
A 45-year-old Guyanese national was remanded into custody after 53 bottles of Tussadryl cough syrup were found in his bag at a Suriname checkpoint.

According to the Jamaica Observer, a 45-year-old Guyanese man has been remanded into custody in Suriname after police suspected him of attempting to smuggle cough syrup across the border.
The man, identified by his initials FGJ, was stopped at the Burnside checkpoint after officers found his passport lacked a valid entry stamp. A subsequent search of his bag uncovered 53 bottles of Tussadryl cough syrup.
Police said FGJ also violated both the Aliens Act and the Smuggling Act.
"Because it was suspected that these were smuggled, the suspect was arrested, subsequently brought before the court, and detained following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service," police said in a statement.
