KPSM arrests suspects with firearms, drugs and stolen car in week-long operation
Sint Maarten police carried out targeted enforcement actions from 20–27 September, resulting in multiple arrests for firearms, drugs, and robbery-related offences.
KPSM week-long crackdown yields firearms, drug and stolen vehicle arrests across Sint Maarten
The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) conducted a series of targeted enforcement actions between Sunday, 20 September and Sunday, 27 September 2026, 721news Sint Maarten reports. The operations were carried out by the KPSM Operations Team in cooperation with several operational partners and focused on road safety, robbery suppression, illegal firearms and drug-related offences.
Deployment was guided by intelligence-led policing, with officers assigned to locations and times where criminal activity was considered more prevalent. Controls ran during both daytime and nighttime hours.
Handgun found during Simpsonbay vehicle stop
Near a business in Simpsonbay, officers stopped a vehicle carrying three occupants. A preventive search revealed a handgun inside the vehicle. All three persons were initially arrested and the firearm was confiscated. Following questioning, two individuals were identified as tourists and subsequently released. The investigation into the firearm remains ongoing.
Stolen Kia Picanto intercepted in Maho
In the Maho area, a suspect was arrested on suspicion of receiving or handling stolen property. The suspect was driving a grey Kia Picanto that, during the control, was found to have been reported stolen. The vehicle was secured for further investigation.
Narcotics discovered near airport; Colombian national referred to Immigration
Near the airport, two persons were arrested following a vehicle control in which a quantity of narcotics was discovered. Both occupants were arrested on suspicion of violating the Opium Lands Ordinance. One of the arrested persons, a Colombian national, was also found not to hold valid documentation permitting her to remain on Sint Maarten and was transferred to the Immigration Department for further processing.
Joint operation on 26 September nets armed robbery suspect
On Saturday, 26 September, a joint enforcement operation involving the KPSM Operations Team, the Detective Department, the Immigration Department and Customs was conducted at multiple locations across Sint Maarten.
During the operation, the police control centre received a report of two scooters carrying four persons in the Platinum area, with the male occupants reportedly wearing masks. Members of the Detective Department responded and intercepted the group on Sr. Modesta Road. One suspect fled on a scooter; a second was arrested. A firearm was found in the arrested suspect's possession. Investigators are examining whether the suspect had been preparing to commit a robbery. The investigation remains ongoing.
23 scooters stopped; 11 impounded for lacking documentation
As part of the same joint operation, a total of 23 scooters were stopped. Of these, 11 were taken into custody because their drivers did not possess the required valid documentation. Across the full operation, 68 vehicles were stopped for inspection, of which 28 were subjected to preventive searches conducted by police, Customs and Immigration personnel.
KPSM stated that these actions form part of its continued efforts to improve road safety, prevent robberies and combat the possession and use of illegal firearms and narcotics. The force says it will continue conducting targeted controls based on available intelligence and information received from officers and members of the public, and encourages residents to report suspicious activity to police.
