Police are analysing a video filmed in the Cauceglia neighbourhood, in the west of Montevideo, in which minors and adults are seen handling firearms during an illegal party held at a residence in the area. According to montevideo.com.uy, the images are in the possession of the Investigations Unit of Operational Zone IV and form part of a broader investigation into violent incidents recorded in the neighbourhood in recent days.
The video shows several people with firearms of significant calibre, including 9-millimetre Glock pistols with extended magazines and drum-type magazines, according to information provided by Subrayado.
The case gained prominence following a series of shootings that occurred last week in Cauceglia, some of them in the vicinity of a school. In response, on Sunday police deployed a major operation with seven simultaneous raids in the neighbourhood.
During those procedures, two people were arrested. One of them was wanted in connection with the shootings recorded in the area, but was subsequently released after the Public Prosecutor's Office determined that there was insufficient evidence to bring charges. Sources cited by Subrayado indicated that that person appears in the video, although they are not seen carrying weapons.
Beyond that judicial decision, police viewed the operation positively: during the raids, ammunition and surveillance cameras installed in residences in the area were seized. According to investigators, those devices were used by criminals to monitor movements within the neighbourhood and alert to the presence of police.
Authorities increased police presence in Cauceglia and continue to work on the video content in search of new evidence to identify those involved in the shootings and other violent incidents recorded in the area.
