Cuello recaptured in Chacarita following Inisa escape
Personnel from the Homicide Department captured Agustín Cuello, 20, on Friday in the Chacarita de los Padres neighbourhood area, according to sources from the case confirmed by montevideo.com.uy.
Cuello had escaped on 6 October from facilities of the National Institute for Adolescent Social Inclusion (Inisa) located on Avenida José Belloni, where he was serving custodial measures linked to several homicides. Days before that escape, he had also fled from a centre in Jardines del Hipódromo, in Montevideo.
The detention was carried out in the framework of several raids conducted in the vicinity of Senda 4 and Senda 2. The operation was led by the Homicide Department of the General Directorate of Complex Cases, with collaboration from the General Directorate of Special Operations (Digoe) and a Police Aviation helicopter. Weapons were also seized during the procedure.
Cuello had been convicted of the homicide of Joel Rodríguez, a member of the Republican Guard, which occurred in Punta Gorda. The officer was approached by a group of criminals who attempted to rob him of his motorcycle; one of those involved shot him in the head and Rodríguez died hours later.
Despite being of legal age and having served six months in Comcar, the young man was still held at Inisa at the time of the escapes. The authorities considered him dangerous: he was part of a criminal organisation in La Cruz de Carrasco and had committed at least two homicides whilst still a minor, all in the context of robberies and with extreme violence.
