Portlaoise man faces rape and sexual assault charges at Central Criminal Court
A 24-year-old man has been sent forward to the Central Criminal Court on four charges — one count of rape, one count of sexual assault relating to one woman, and two counts of sexual assault relating to a second woman, leinsterexpress.ie reports.
All four alleged offences are said to have occurred on 21 December 2025. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Portlaoise District Court for the committal proceedings.
Garda Lisa Murray gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the accused at a sitting of the court. Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed the accused be sent forward to the present sittings of the Central Criminal Court on all four charges. He added that there was also consent to the accused being sent forward on a signed plea.
Judge Andrew Gubbins issued an alibi warning before returning the case to the Central Criminal Court. Solicitor Brian Duffy, coming on record for Solicitor Philip Meagher, confirmed no application for legal aid was being made. Judge Gubbins imposed reporting restrictions and remanded the accused on bail.
