Limerick murder-suicide: Brazilian woman found dead, husband's body discovered in Cork

Gardaí have classified the death of a Brazilian woman at a Limerick apartment as a murder-suicide, RTÉ News reports, after the body of her husband was found in Cork at the weekend.

Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, a 33-year-old law graduate from Brazil, was found dead at an apartment on Lower Cecil Street on Friday morning. Friends who had been waiting outside the building for her alerted gardaí when she failed to appear. Officers discovered her body in an upstairs apartment upon arrival at the scene.

A post-mortem examination found evidence of foul play, prompting a formal murder investigation. Her husband, identified as Judismar Wesley Batista, a Brazilian man in his 30s, is suspected of her killing. He is believed to have left Limerick by public transport on Friday and travelled to Cork, where his body was found on Saturday.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate all circumstances surrounding Ms Pereira Rosa's death. A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry and an incident room has been established at Henry Street Garda Station. A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the family.

Ms Pereira Rosa had been working with a cleaning company in Limerick. Her employer is covering the cost of repatriation to São Paulo, Brazil, where she was based. A fundraising campaign to assist the family with additional repatriation and funeral expenses has raised more than €25,000. Those funds are expected to cover the cost of a wake and funeral in her hometown of Sorocaba.

Tributes have been paid to Ms Pereira Rosa across the Brazilian community in Limerick, where she was described by those who knew her as kind and bubbly.
