The chief suspect in the murder of a Brazilian woman in Limerick has been found dead in a Cork suburb, TheJournal.ie reports. Gardaí believe the man, also understood to be from Brazil and previously in a relationship with the victim, died by suicide on Saturday.

Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, who was in her 30s, was killed in what gardaí believe was a domestic violence incident at an apartment at Carlton House, Cecil Street, Limerick, at around 7am on Friday. She was discovered after one of her friends alerted gardaí.

A post-mortem carried out by the State Pathologist confirmed that Rosa died a violent death. The apartment remained sealed off over the weekend as forensic examinations were conducted at the scene.

Gardaí in Cork are separately investigating the discovery of the suspect's body. He was described in a garda statement as "a person of interest and a line of enquiry" in the Limerick murder investigation.

"A male (aged in his 30s) who was a person of interest and a line of enquiry in this investigation, has been found deceased," the statement read.

Rosa had worked at a local shop in Limerick. She was originally from Sorocaba, a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Colleagues raised the alarm when she failed to appear for work.

A friend paid tribute to her online, posting a photograph of the two of them together. "Eternal memories of you, my dear. Only God knows how much you helped me and how contagious your joy was. May the Lord Jesus receive you in his arms eternally," she wrote, adding: "We had many happy moments but today, you went to live with Jesus. Eternal memories. I will never forget your kindness."

The National Women's Council of Ireland also issued a tribute on its Facebook page. "Struggling to find the words, yet again, to let you know that another woman has been killed this year," the statement read. "Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa was from Brazil and lived in Limerick. Our hearts are today with her, and with her loved ones, for whom her loss will be immeasurable. Every woman deserves to live free from violence and abuse."

An Garda Síochána confirmed that the murder investigation remains open. A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been established at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the murder "to determine all of the circumstances of her death," according to the statement. Anyone with information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on (061) 212400.
