Brazilian woman murdered in Limerick was forced to share home with estranged husband

Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, a 33-year-old Brazilian national, had been living with her estranged husband at a Limerick apartment complex despite having broken off their relationship months earlier — because she could not find alternative accommodation, Google News IE — Crime (en) reports.
Her body was discovered at approximately 7.30am on Friday at the Carlton House complex on Cecil Street. Gardaí launched a murder investigation and were keen to speak to her husband, Judismar Wesley Batista, also a Brazilian national. A body found in Cork later that same Friday, at approximately 7pm, was subsequently confirmed to be Mr Batista.
Friends of Ms Pereira Rosa told the Irish Examiner she had been married to Batista for over a decade. She ended the relationship a couple of months ago, but Batista "was not accepting much" of the split and held out hope for "reconciliation".
Her brother Paulo confirmed she had been compelled to remain in the shared apartment despite seeking a separation.
"There are so many immigrants in Ireland that it was difficult for her to find the place where she lived... Imagine how difficult that must have been for her, especially being alone," he said.
An autopsy conducted by the State Pathologist confirmed that Ms Pereira Rosa suffered a "violent death". Gardaí have not yet released the full results, citing "operational reasons".
The provisional death certificate remains pending, complicating the repatriation process her family is urgently seeking to begin. "We still need to provide it to the funeral home in Ireland," Paulo said.
A fundraiser established in Ms Pereira Rosa's name has raised over €25,000. Donations have since been paused after the initial target was reached. Her employer has agreed to cover the cost of transporting her body back to Brazil.
Ms Pereira Rosa was originally from Sorocaba, in the state of São Paulo, and held a law degree. She had lived in Limerick for a number of years and worked for a cleaning company in Co Limerick.
Her employer, Shane Ryan, paid tribute to her in remarks to the Irish Examiner. "I don't know what to say, she was a great daughter. She's a very good person, and she'll be sadly missed. Jady was a great girl, she didn't deserve what happened to her," he said.
On Monday evening, a vigil organised by Rosa Limerick drew a crowd to Bedford Row, where candles and notes were placed in tribute. Those gathered paid respects not only to Ms Pereira Rosa but also to Tipperary woman Annmarie O'Reilly, who was found dead in Australia in recent days.
