Brazilian woman stabbed to death in Limerick in suspected murder-suicide

Gardaí are treating the death of Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa in Limerick as a murder-suicide after the body of the chief suspect was found in Co Cork.

Google News IE — Crime (en) reports that gardaí are treating the death of Brazilian national Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa as a murder-suicide, after the body of the chief suspect was recovered approximately 12 hours after hers.

Rosa's body was discovered at an apartment on Cecil Street, Limerick City, at around 7.30am on Friday morning. The chief suspect, named locally as Judismar Weslei Batista, also a Brazilian national, was found deceased near Blackrock Castle, Co Cork, at around 7pm that same evening.

Rosa and Batista are understood to have been in a long-term relationship and had been sharing the Cecil Street apartment where her body was found.

Friends of Rosa had arrived at the apartment building that Friday morning to travel to work with her. It is understood Batista emerged from the building and told them she would be down shortly. When she failed to appear, her friends raised the alarm. Gardaí and paramedics were alerted, and Rosa was pronounced dead inside the apartment. She is understood to have suffered stab injuries, though gardaí said they would not be releasing the findings of her post-mortem for "operational reasons".

A Garda spokesman confirmed: "A male in his 30s who was a person of interest and a line of enquiry in this investigation, has been found deceased." He added that "An Garda Síochána continue to investigate the murder of the woman to determine all of the circumstances of her death."

Gardaí and the Coast Guard were involved in the recovery of Batista's remains at Blackrock. His body was not immediately identified at the scene.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation, and an incident room has been established at Henry Street Garda Station. Gardaí are not believed to be seeking any other individuals in connection with Rosa's murder.

Rosa had been employed by a cleaning company in Limerick. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to cover the costs of repatriating her remains to her native São Paulo and to fund her funeral. By Monday, the campaign had raised over €25,000.
