Cork city raid: drugs, swords, horses and €6,000 cash seized in Mahon

Multi-agency operation targets criminal activity across six Cork properties

Gardaí seized drugs, weapons, vehicles and animals during searches of six properties in the Mahon area of Cork city, TheJournal.ie reports. A man in his 20s was arrested in the course of the operation and remains in garda detention.

The haul included approximately €1,000 worth of suspected heroin, around €600 worth of suspected crack cocaine and €6,000 in cash. Among the weapons recovered were slash hooks, hammers, baseball bats, machetes, swords and slingshots.

Vehicles seized included electric scramblers, e-scooters and two caravans.

The National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) removed 10 dogs, a pony and a horse from the searched properties. All animals are due to be examined by a veterinarian, a garda spokesperson confirmed.

The operation drew on a broad range of specialist units, including the Armed Support Unit, Dog Unit, Divisional Search Unit, Serious Crime Investigation Units, Community Engagement, Roads Policing and Scenes of Crime Units. Revenue and the Department of Social Protection also participated.

"Investigations are ongoing," the garda spokesperson said.
