A man in his 40s was detained in County Louth after Gardaí stopped a car in Dundalk on Wednesday, uncovering 119kg (262lb) of cannabis with an estimated street value of €1.6m (£1.4m). He is being held on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Follow-up searches in Newtownabbey, County Antrim, yielded a further 45kg of cannabis, half a kilogram of suspected cocaine, 22 imitation firearms, and £25,000 in cash. The Police Service of Northern Ireland's Organised Crime Unit carried out that search and arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the find.
