A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of 19-year-old cyclist TJ McDonnell in Co Meath, TheJournal.ie reports.

The incident occurred at Nugentstown, Kells at 8.05pm on Tuesday, when a van struck a bicycle and left the scene without stopping. McDonnell, from Durhamstown, Bohermeen, Co Meath, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí detained the man under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in the Eastern Region. He was subsequently released without charge. A file is to be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and investigations remain ongoing.

McDonnell's local football club, Bohermeen Celtic FC, paid tribute to the teenager, who had been a member of the club since Under-8 level. "TJ was a huge part of the Bohermeen Celtic family," the club said. "His journey with the club began as a young player at Under-8 level and continued right through the age groups to Youths and Senior football. Throughout those years, TJ made countless memories, friendships and connections that will remain part of the fabric of our club."
