Dundalk woman charged with possession of multiple firearms and ammunition

Dundalk woman remanded on bail after firearms seizure in Co Louth

A 34-year-old woman has appeared before a special sitting of Dundalk District Court following the seizure of several firearms and ammunition during a Garda operation in Co Louth, the Irish Times reports.

Ciara Brady, of Cedarwood Park, Cox's Demesne, Dundalk, faces charges of having control of a five-shot BBM Olympic-type revolver in circumstances giving rise to a reasonable inference that she did not possess it for a lawful purpose. She was further charged with having control of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a Harlot .22-calibre single-shot revolver, and a 9mm semi-automatic carbine short rifle.

Brady is also accused of possessing 12 rounds of 9mm Luger calibre ammunition and seven rounds of .22 long-rifle ammunition. The alleged offences are said to have taken place at her home address on Friday, 21st August, when Gardaí searched a number of residential properties in the Dundalk area as part of an ongoing investigation.

Brady appeared in court without legal representation, telling the court her solicitor could not attend due to the ongoing legal professionals' "strike". She confirmed she had spoken with her solicitor by phone.

Garda Ryan Brennan, who gave evidence of arresting and charging Brady at Dundalk Garda station on Sunday evening, told the court she made no reply when the charges were put to her following caution. Brennan added that there was consent to bail, subject to conditions already agreed between the parties.

Judge Stephanie Coggans remanded Brady on bail on her own bond of €500, with no cash lodgement required, and an independent cash surety of €1,000. As part of her bail conditions, Brady must reside at her home address, surrender her passport within 24 hours, remain contactable by phone at all times, and sign on at Dundalk Garda station every Monday and Friday.

Brennan noted there was "a bit of work to be done" in preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Brady is due to appear before Dundalk District Court on 25th November for the DPP's directions.
