€1.6m Cannabis Seizure in Co Louth: Two Men Arrested in Cross-Border Operation

A joint Irish-Northern Irish operation netted 119kg of cannabis worth €1.6m in Co Louth. Two men are in custody as investigations continue.

Google News IE — Crime (en) reports that a man in his 40s has been arrested following the seizure of €1,666,000 worth of cannabis in Co Louth.

Revenue Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), and the PSNI's Organised Crime Unit conducted a joint operation, intercepting a total of 119kg of cannabis. A vehicle was stopped in the Dundalk area, leading to the arrest of the man on suspicion of drug trafficking. He is currently being held for questioning at a garda station in Co Louth.

Follow-up searches in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, resulted in the recovery of a further 45kg of cannabis, half a kilogram of cocaine, 22 imitation firearms, and £25,000 in cash.

A second man, in his 30s, was arrested during the Newtownabbey searches and is being held by the PSNI.

Gardaí and Revenue confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
