Four arrested after knife attack at Spar in Ranelagh, Dublin

A man was hospitalised with non-life-threatening stab wounds after an attack at a Spar in Ranelagh. Four people are in custody at Dublin garda stations.

Four people were arrested on Wednesday after a knife attack at a Spar convenience store in Ranelagh, south Dublin, left one man with stab wounds, the Irish Times reports.

The incident occurred shortly before 1.30pm at the prominent shop adjacent to the Triangle in the village. Gardaí cordoned off the entrance while the premises was inspected as part of the investigation.

Local camera footage, seen by the Irish Times, shows an individual running from a group of others along the main street in Ranelagh before entering the Spar. The confrontation is thought to have begun elsewhere before moving into the shop. A number of those involved are known in the area.

The injured man, described as young, was taken to hospital with wounds believed to be "non-life-threatening."

The four arrested were detained at garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region. An Garda Síochána confirmed that armed officers were among those who responded to calls of an alleged assault. In a statement, the force said: "Gardaí arrested four individuals who are currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in Garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region. Investigations are ongoing."

Gardaí at the scene were also investigating possible links to a separate attack in Leopardstown over the weekend. That incident, which took place at an abandoned premises housing approximately 15 members of the Roma community, involved a spade and resulted in the death of Siminic Rostas, as a court heard. A 24-year-old man died after suffering what were described as "catastrophic injuries" in the large-scale violent confrontation on Saturday evening.
