Galway Divisional Drugs Unit seizes narcotics and cash at two city properties

Google News IE — Crime (en) reports that a man in his 40s is due before Galway District Court on Thursday morning following the seizure of close to €20,000 worth of drugs and approximately €9,300 in cash from two properties in Galway city.

Members of the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit executed search warrants at both addresses on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity in the Galway division. Local garda units provided support during the operation.

The searches yielded amphetamines valued at an estimated €9,000 and cannabis valued at approximately €9,300, along with the cash sum. All drugs seized are subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.

Beyond the physical assets recovered, investigators also moved against financial holdings linked to the case. Two cryptocurrency accounts with a combined current value of approximately $900,000 were frozen pending further investigation, as was a separate bank account containing €25,000.

A man in his 40s was arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in the north-western region. He has since been charged in connection with the investigation and was listed to appear before Galway District Court at 11am.

An Garda Síochána confirmed the operation forms part of broader, ongoing inquiries into organised criminal networks operating within the Galway division.
