Google News IE — Crime (en) reports that a man in his 40s has been charged and is due before Galway District Court following an operation targeting organised criminal activity in the city.

Gardaí from the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit, supported by local units, executed search warrants at two properties in Galway city on Wednesday, 26th August 2026.

Two cryptocurrency accounts with a combined value of approximately $900,000 (€772,740) were frozen pending further investigation, along with a bank account containing €25,000.

Searches of the properties also yielded cash totalling €9,300, amphetamine with an estimated street value of €9,000, and cannabis valued at €9,300.

The man was arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the North Western Region before being charged in connection with the investigation. He was scheduled to appear before Galway District Court on Thursday morning, 27th August 2026, at 11am.

A Garda spokesman told Galway Live: "As part of ongoing investigations into organised criminal activity in the Galway Division, Gardaí carried out an operation on Wednesday, 26th August 2026."

The spokesman confirmed that the seized drugs are subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland and that investigations remain ongoing.
