Gardaí renew appeal one year on in Daniel Aruebose murder investigation
Gardaí have launched a fresh appeal for information a year after Tusla first raised concerns about missing eight-year-old Daniel Aruebose, found dead in 2021.

An Garda Síochána has issued a renewed call for information surrounding the disappearance and murder of Daniel Aruebose, as reported by Google News IE — Crime (en), one year after Tusla first alerted the force to concerns about the boy.
Daniel, who would now be eight years old, lived at The Gallery Apartments in Donabate, north Dublin. He died in 2021, and his body was buried in an unmarked grave on waste ground. Skeletal remains were recovered last September, and DNA analysis subsequently confirmed they were Daniel's. A homicide investigation was launched in December.
At the time Tusla raised its concerns, there had been no confirmed sighting of the child for a number of years. The child and family agency had previously engaged with Daniel's family but closed that engagement after a temporary fostering arrangement came to an end. His case triggered a series of wellbeing checks across thousands of Tusla files, as well as a rapid review of his individual case.
A Garda spokesperson said the force "continues to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding Daniel's death." Over the past year, the investigation team has taken more than 400 statements, retained over 100 physical exhibits and almost 300 documentary exhibits.
The inquiry has spanned multiple jurisdictions. Gardaí have engaged with law enforcement in the United States, Brazil, France and the United Kingdom, as well as the Australian Federal Police, the Portuguese Judicial Police, Interpol and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates. Coordination has also been maintained with the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
Two arrests have been made to date. A woman in her 20s was arrested in December in connection with the murder and later released. A man in his 20s was arrested in February and also released. In both cases, Gardaí confirmed a file was being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Garda spokesperson appealed directly to former and current residents of The Gallery Apartments complex in Donabate: "An Garda Síochána appeals to any person who was resident in The Gallery Apartments complex in Donabate between July 2019 to the present date, to speak with the investigation team, if they have not already done so."
The force also urged the public not to assume investigators are already aware of information they may hold. "If you had any interaction with Daniel Aruebose or if you have any information in relation to Daniel Aruebose please contact An Garda Síochána and let the investigation team determine the significance of any information."
